Results Are Rounded Estimates

The tools apply standard formulas and round their output for readability. That rounding, together with the assumptions of a deliberately simple model, means a displayed value may differ slightly from a real sheet. Paper also varies batch to batch in caliper and moisture, so treat every result as a close starting point, not an exact measurement.

Why a Result May Look Off

A calculator can return a surprising or blank answer when:

• Units are mismatched: entering millimetres where inches are expected (or the reverse) changes the answer entirely.
• Inputs describe an impossible layout: for example, a piece larger than the parent sheet, or a card bigger than any standard envelope.
• The wrong paper grade is chosen: a pound-to-gsm figure depends on the grade, so bond, text, and cover give different results for the same number.
• Real paper differs from the model: thickness, grain, and tension all shift a finished coil, fold, or stack from the calculated ideal.
